Introduction to General Awareness

General Awareness is one of the four sections of SSC CGL Tier-1 examination. It carries 25 questions for 50 marks. This section tests your knowledge about India and the world - covering History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science and Current Affairs.

How to Prepare for General Awareness:

 

Step 1 - Study each topic systematically - start with History then Geography then Polity then Economy then Science. 

Step 2 - Make short notes for each chapter - dates, facts, names. 

Step 3 - Read daily current affairs - at least 2 posts every day. 

Step 4 - Revise notes weekly - General Awareness requires regular revision. 

Step 5 - Attempt previous year question papers topic wise.

 

Scoring Strategy for SSC CGL:

 

Target: Attempt all 25 questions with 85% accuracy.

  • History: Attempt all - focus on modern history dates and movements
  • Geography: Attempt all - focus on rivers, mountains, states and capitals
  • Polity: Attempt all - focus on Articles and Amendments
  • Economy: Attempt confidently known questions
  • Science: Attempt all - focus on basic concepts and formulas
  • Current Affairs: Attempt recent 6 months current affairs only

 

Important Tips:

  • General Awareness cannot be prepared in one day - consistent daily study is essential
  • Revise previously learned topics every Sunday
  • Current Affairs from last 6 months before exam are most important
  • Make a separate notebook for important dates, names and facts
  • This section has no shortcuts - only regular reading and revision works
  • Students who score 40+ out of 50 in this section have a huge advantage
