The Union Cabinet has launched the Cotton Productivity Mission to improve cotton yield and strengthen the cotton value chain in India.

 

Background: India is one of the world's largest producers and exporters of cotton. However, India's per hectare cotton yield is significantly lower than countries like China and USA. The Cotton Productivity Mission aims to bridge this gap by using better seeds, technology and farming practices.

 

Why in News: The Union Cabinet has approved the Cotton Productivity Mission - a dedicated mission to boost cotton production and strengthen the entire cotton value chain from farming to textile manufacturing.
